چکیده

Background The dark-rim artefact (DRA) is well known in 2D firstpass perfusion (FPP). The in-plane features of DRA are understood, but DRA has not been examined along the second phase-encoding (partition) direction for 3D FPP. The Gibbs contribution to DRAs in 2D FPP is minimised by finer resolution, but low through-plane resolutions of 3D FPP imply risk of partition axis DRAs. We investigated these new partition DRAs ("PDRAs”) and partial volume effects due to coarse resolution of this direction.

Steady-state first-pass perfusion (SSFPP): A 3D TWIST in myocardial first-pass perfusion imaging

A new approach to myocardial first-pass perfusion imaging is presented; this technique, called SSFPP, is based on 3D SSFP sequence whereby magnetization is maintained in constant steady-state, while data acquisition is gated to diastole. This results in high SNR and CNR, and other characteristics that can potentially mitigate dark rim artifacts. The high-blood myocardial contrast of SSFP allows...

Eliminating dark-rim artifacts in first-pass myocardial perfusion imaging

Background We demonstrate that projection imaging significantly reduces the prevalence and spatial extent of subendocardial dark-rim artifacts (DRAs) in first-pass perfusion (FPP) myocardial MR, compared to conventional Cartesian techniques. A major cause of DRAs, which remain a major concern in FPP imaging, is known to be the socalled Gibbs ringing (truncation) phenomenon [1-3]. Radial k-space...

Effect of Improving Spatial or Temporal Resolution on Image Quality and Quantitative Perfusion Assessment with k-t SENSE Acceleration in First-Pass CMR Myocardial Perfusion Imaging

k-t Sensitivity-encoded (k-t SENSE) acceleration has been used to improve spatial resolution, temporal resolution, and slice coverage in first-pass cardiac magnetic resonance myocardial perfusion imaging. This study compares the effect of investing the speed-up afforded by k-t SENSE acceleration in spatial or temporal resolution. Ten healthy volunteers underwent adenosine stress myocardial perf...

Simulation of Motion-Induced Dark-Rim Artifacts for Cartesian and Spiral Pulse Sequences

Introduction: First-pass MR perfusion images may be corrupted by dark-rim artifacts, which are at least in part a consequence of myocardial motion during data acquisition [1]. We have previously shown that the non-linear time-varying displacements of the myocardium resulting from cardiac contraction result in dark-rim artifacts that have a different appearance in images obtained at different ph...

Dark-rim-free ungated first-pass perfusion CMR with 3-Slice end-systolic imaging: initial experience

Background First-pass perfusion (FPP) cardiac MR (CMR) imaging has been shown to have a high performance for diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD). Reliability of FPP imaging, however, is hindered by dark-rim artifacts (DRAs) and the need for near-perfect ECG gating. The latter can be challenging in the presence of arrhythmias or heart-rate variations during stress. Moreover, endsystolic (...
